Mind & Happiness 88
In our Waking & Dream States our attention is so absorbed in thinking of other things that we barely notice our own peacefully Self-Conscious Existence, & the Happiness that is inherent in each States. Generally, the only occasion on which we are clearly aware of the peaceful Happiness of Existence that we experience between 2 consecutive thoughts is during Deep Dreamless Sleep, because Deep Dreamless Sleep is a comparatively long gap between 2 consecutive thoughts, brought about by the sheer exhaustion of our Mind.
Nevertheless, though we may hardly notice it, even during Waking & Dream, in the extremely brief moment between the subsiding of each thought & the rising of the next, we do in fact experience our own essential Self-Conscious Existence or brahman in its true & perfectly pure form, uncontaminated by thinking or doing. Moreover, whenever one of our desires – whether a desire to experience something that we like or a desire to avoid experiencing something that we dislike – is fulfilled, the momentum with which thoughts rise in our Mind slows down temporarily, so not only does each thought rise with less vigor, but also the momentary gap between 2 consecutive thoughts becomes slightly longer.
Thus for a short while we are able to experience the peaceful Happiness of our own Existence more clearly, until some other desire takes hold of our Mind, thereby reanimating the momentum & vigor with which our thoughts rise, & thus once again obscuring our Happiness of Existence more densely.
The true, motionless, unadulterated & thought-free form of our own Essential Existence or brahman, which we experience momentarily between each 2 consecutive thoughts, is both our fundamental Consciousness of Existence, “I exist”, & the perfect Happiness of our thus Existence conscious only of our Existence. Therefore, if we wish to experience our own natural & perfect Happiness constantly, our attention must penetrate beneath the wavering or oscillation of thoughts on the surface of our Mind in order to experience in its pure unadulterated form our Essential & Fundamental Consciousness of our own Existence, “I exist”, which always underlies our wavering Mind.
Thus we can permanently experience perfect & absolute Happiness only in the State of True Self-Knowledge – the State in which we always remain merely as our own essential Existence, our Fundamental Self-Consciousness “I exist”, without rising to think or do anything. Therefore, let us now examine the knowledge that we have about our self at present in order to understand not only how it is a wrong knowledge, but also what the correct Knowledge of our Self really is, & how we can attain immediate experience of that correct knowledge.

[A brief note of explanation – this Blog is entitled “Non-Duality & Science”, & so the more Science oriented pages (from what I like to think of as a “comic book”) have been posted there, while other chapters have been posted in the other Blog noted below. Science is a mental discipline that attracts some worthy admirers & participators. Some of these, too few, are good prospects for the ancient teaching introduced here in many ways. Otherwise certain Science topics like the Anthropic Principle, reinforce the general Theism which is a good idea in this materialistic age. A few other topics in Science, such as the Copenhagen II – Max Born – Von Neumann – Wigner model of Quantum Mechanics, are worthy entries to the extent that they introduce Consciousness into the physical Sciences. All that aside, the real topic here is the pinnacle as Advaita Vedanta, Non-Duality – that pinnacle being Ajata Vada, No–Creation. The great Teachers of the same include Sri Shankara & Sri Ramana Maharshi. Both would support Theism in general & adaptations of Vedanta, such as Vishishtadvaita Vedanta – Qualified Non-Duality, for those not making headway in Ajata Vada, their present course of growth might be better served with a temporary involvement in Qualified Non-Duality. The scientist who perhaps best expresses the influence of Qualified Non-Duality in Science, for instance, would be the quintessential “New–Age” Quantum Physicist, Amit Goswami. And so to that source, & the Quantum Activism he currently advocates [with a 1–course degree program], along with more than a half-dozen good books & former participation in the controversial What the Bleep movie, to him I extend enthusiastic endorsement, for that Qualified Non-Duality described in the context of Science. I do not stand so much “with him”, as much as nearby saluting his good work. Again, as here, a goal is inserting Consciousness into Science & “saving the World.”]
