Mind & Happiness 116
Though we are in Reality the Infinite Consciousness of just Existence – the essential Non-Dual Self-Consciousness “I exist” – we imagine our self to be this finite “object-knowing” Consciousness that we call our Mind. All that we know as other than our self – all our thoughts, Feelings & Perceptions – are merely products of our own Imagination, & they appear to exist only because we imagine our self to be something separate from them. In Deep Dreamless Sleep we experience our Non-Dual Self-Consciousness “I exist”, but we do not experience any otherness, separation or Duality.
Even in Waking & Dream we experience this same Non-Dual Self-Consciousness “I exist”, but along with it we also experience the Illusion of otherness, separation or Duality. Nothing that we experience is actually other than our own Essential Consciousness. Our Consciousness is the fundamental substance that appears as all other things. Other things are all products of our Imagination. What we call our Imagination is a power or faculty that our Consciousness possesses to modify itself seemingly into the form of our Thoughts, Feelings, & Perceptions.
When we imagine our experience of Thoughts, Feelings, & Perceptions, we create a seeming separation between our self & these objects of our Consciousness. Therefore if we did not first imagine our self to be something separate – something limited or finite – we could not experience anything as being other than our self. Hence, in order to imagine the “existence” of things other than our self, we must begin by imagining our self to be one among the many finite things that we thus imagine.
Thus in order to experience a World, whether this World that we perceive in our present Waking State or the World that we perceive in any of our other Dreams, we must simultaneously imagine our self to be a particular Body in that World. We can clearly recognize this fact when we consider our experience in Dream.
We do not experience a Dream in the same manner that we experience a cinema show. When we watch a cinema show or television program, we experience our self as a spectator who exists outside the moving picture that we are watching, but when we experience a Dream, we experience our self as a Person – a Body & Mind – who is a part of the Dream World that we are experiencing. Similarly, when we experience our present Waking State, we experience our self as a Person – a Body & Mind – who is a part of this Waking World that we are now experiencing.

[A brief note of explanation – this Blog is entitled “Non-Duality & Science”, & so the more Science oriented pages (from what I like to think of as a “comic book”) have been posted there, while other chapters have been posted in the other Blog noted below. Science is a mental discipline that attracts some worthy admirers & participators. Some of these, too few, are good prospects for the ancient teaching introduced here in many ways. Otherwise certain Science topics like the Anthropic Principle, reinforce the general Theism which is a good idea in this materialistic age. A few other topics in Science, such as the Copenhagen II – Max Born – Von Neumann – Wigner model of Quantum Mechanics, are worthy entries to the extent that they introduce Consciousness into the physical Sciences. All that aside, the real topic here is the pinnacle as Advaita Vedanta, Non-Duality – that pinnacle being Ajata Vada, No–Creation. The great Teachers of the same include Sri Shankara & Sri Ramana Maharshi. Both would support Theism in general & adaptations of Vedanta, such as Vishishtadvaita Vedanta – Qualified Non-Duality, for those not making headway in Ajata Vada, their present course of growth might be better served with a temporary involvement in Qualified Non-Duality. The scientist who perhaps best expresses the influence of Qualified Non-Duality in Science, for instance, would be the quintessential “New–Age” Quantum Physicist, Amit Goswami. And so to that source, & the Quantum Activism he currently advocates [with a 1–course degree program], along with more than a half-dozen good books & former participation in the controversial What the Bleep movie, to him I extend enthusiastic endorsement, for that Qualified Non-Duality described in the context of Science. I do not stand so much “with him”, as much as nearby saluting his good work. Again, as here, a goal is inserting Consciousness into Science & “saving the World.”]
