REALIZING NON–DUAL LIBERATION, ENLIGHTENMENT BY SELF-INQUIRY – PT 206
[The Teaching of Non-Duality has been adapted from Master Nome, disciple of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Sections appended below derive from Sri Ramana’s Teaching; & another selection based on Ramana’s disciple Annamalai.Swami]
By Self-Knowledge one finds that one is not a limited, individual self, nor are there 2 “I’s” in the same being. All the limitations are entirely based on the concept of an “Individual”, or Ego–“I”, as one’s identity. One should see the “I” as pervading the limitation, as the root of the limitation, as being falsely strengthened by adherence to the limitation, as the thread running through the core of the limitation, & as the thread of all limitations together into pseudo-self. The vicious cycle of limitations so conceived & the Ego from Samsara.
Is there anyone who is not aware of himself ? Each one knows, but yet does not know, the Self – a strange paradox.
If Self-Inquiry is made whether Mind exists, it will be found that Mind does not exist. That is control of Mind. Otherwise, if the Mind is taken to exist & one seeks to control it, it amounts to Mind controlling the Mind, just like a thief turning out to be a policeman to catch the thief, such as himself. Mind persists in that way alone, but eludes itself.’
Consciousness alone exists. If you generate a firm conviction that this is the Truth, eventually this firm conviction will become your own direct experience.
